In Campustown, Cracked! The Egg Came First has some new dishes this year’s Restaurant Week. I went for a breakfast date on Friday, and we ordered the two RW chicken dishes plus coffees.
I had the horchata latte ($4.50), which was really delicious. It was the right temperature to sip immediately, and I loved the creamy cinnamon sugar flavor. My date had drip coffee ($2.49), black, and it was fine.
I ordered a full order of the chicken and waffles ($14.49), but it’s available in a half size as well. Cracked!’s chicken and waffles had two crispy chicken strips on top of a big waffle with little cup of syrup on the side. The waffle came with the butter already on it, so it was a little softer than I like my waffles, but it still tasted good. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the seasoned chicken tendies; they were yummy especially as a salty counterpart to the sweet syrup and butter-soaked waffle.
I also tried some of my date’s dirty bird burrito ($9). Stuffed full of scrambled eggs, fried chicken, and bacon with cheese and a pesto aioli, the burrito was tightly wrapped, and the tortilla had a little char from the grill. It’s hard to say what was the most delicious thing in the burrito: the chicken or the egg — because both were great. The burrito had real bacon, chewy and delicious. The white cheddar melted into the eggs and little cooked onions, and the punchy pesto took all the breakfast flavors to another level.
