CU Ballet will be making its return to the Virginia Theatre’s stage with a production of The Little Mermaid on Mother’s Day weekend.
As their recent press release notes:
“Inspired by the original Hans Christen Anderson story — but with a happy ending —CU Ballet presents The Little Mermaid, a magical adventure for the whole family! Imagine Ziegfeld Follies under the sea, with a brave mermaid, bathing beauties, adorable crabs, jellyfish, a devious sea witch, and a handsome prince in search of true love. It’s glamorous, amusing, and a perfect way to celebrate Mother’s Day.
Champaign Urbana Ballet is one of the foremost pre-professional dance companies in Illinois showcasing talent that represents the most promising young performers in the area. CU Ballet collaborates with local choreographers, lighting/production and costume designers, musicians, and performance venues to produce diverse productions ranging from classical ballets to original works. Through its expanding outreach programs, CU Ballet exposes children and families to the history and beauty of ballet.”
