August 31st is International Overdose Awareness Day, and Champaign-Urbana Public Health District is recognizing it by distributing free NARCAN kits to community members. The kit contains a nasal spray with naloxone, and makes it relatively simple for anyone to administer the lifesaving medication for someone who’s experiencing and opioid overdose.

The distribution will be on the south side of CUPHD facility at 201 W Kenyon in Champaign, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Last year, our Editorial Board looked at available resources for those affected by opioid addiction, or family and friends with a loved one, and Smile Politely writer Michael O’Boyle had a more in depth conversation with the harm reduction coordinator at CUPHD.
