Do you know what came before Espresso Royale on Goodwin?

This week the Champaign County History Museum posed a trivia question, shown below:

Sorry for the partial spoiler in the title, but they’ve already shared the answer. The archway gives it away, right? But, I had no idea what establishment was depicted in the photo. From 1928 to 1966, it was Prehn’s on Oregon, a restaurant and confectionary. The original Prehn’s location was on Sixth and Green. After that, it became Treno’s, a tavern sort of hangout. It appears both establishments occupied the spaces that are now split into Espresso Royale and Bread Company.
