Don’t sleep on the French toast at Sammy’s Pancake House

On the plate is a stack of French toast covered in fruit, glaze, and whipped cream, two sausage links, scrambled eggs, and a small container of syrup.

This week my spouse and I treated ourselves to a nice weekday breakfast at Sammy’s. It’s one of my favorite breakfast spots in C-U; they have really good French toast. That’s what I ordered: the homestyle cinnamon stuffed French toast fresh fruit combo ($13.25). A mouthful!

The dish is three slices of the cinnamon French toast “stuffed” with cream cheese (placed between the layers) and topped with fresh fruit and an orange glaze, served with two eggs and two pieces of bacon or sausage. It was really, really, good. I could do without the orange glaze — I find those things too cloying — but the tangy cream cheese cut through some of the sweetness. You most definitely do not need the syrup that is served on the side.

Next time you’re in the mood for some cinnamon French toast, head to Sammy’s Pancake House.
