It was a quiet Election Day in Champaign County

This past Tuesday was a Election Day, and though there were some pretty sweet results in places like Kentucky, Ohio, and Virginia, thank the universe it wasn’t happening here.

My anxiety about next year’s election is already simmering, because on a national level, it is most certainly going to be stressful. Closer to home, the Champaign County Coroner’s job is definitely up for grabs, as well as some County Board seats. There will also be elections for Illinois State Senate and House and our IL-13 rep. All are important.

The Champaign County League of Women Voters website has great information about next year’s timeline. Right now, you can sign up for the permanent Vote by Mail list, and automatically receive a ballot for every election. In fact, the Champaign County Clerk is doing a little contest with local restaurants through November 27th to encourage people to get on the list. Around here, you can actually mail your ballot or use one of the many drop boxes. A new one is being added in front of the Martens Center next week!

Soon enough, we will be ramping up election coverage on Smile Politely. In the meantime, let’s take a deep breath, appreciate that people in other states voted in favor of things llike reproductive rights, and make sure we’re rested up for when it’s our turn.
