Bloom Bawarchi, an Indian restaurant in Bloomington, is pretty darn fantastic. I visited for the first time recently, and was impressed by the delicious food, and the menu — there are a lot of Southern Indian dishes like dosas available.

Lunch vegetarian thali at Bloom Bawarchi. A tray covered in a green banana leaf on which four metal bowls of different food are served. Also on the tray is a pile of curried cabbage, naan and papadum, white rice, buttermilk drink, and a milky dessert in a plastic cup.

I tried the vegetarian lunch thali ($9.99) and it was a whole lot of food that all tasted great. Among my lunch group we also sampled the chili paneer ($14.99) and the mixed vegetable pakora ($10.99). Both were huge portions and we took leftovers home.

Mixed vegetable pakora: battered and fried golden brown pieces of vegetables on a rectangular white plate. Chili paneer: cubes of fried paneer covered in a red chili sauce, garnished with big, white rings of raw onion, served on a rectangular white plate.

What’s really exciting, though, is that Bloom Bawarchi delivers to Champaign-Urbana (and also Peoria and Springfield) Friday through Sunday. Yes, seriously. You need to place your order by 1 p.m., and orders will be delivered to your home around 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. You can order online.
