The second annual CU international Film Festival returns to the Knight Auditorium at the Spurlock Museum on Saturday, March 2nd. This free event features short films from around the world.

Doors open at 6 p.m. and the festival begins at 7 p.m., but per the press release it’s recommended that you arrive early to secure a ticket (free, but you’ll need one to get in). Additional details are in the press release below.

CU International Film Festival (“CUIFF”) is hosting its second annual festival on Saturday, March 2, 2024, in the evening at the Spurlock Museum of World Cultures. The festival showcases short films from around the globe that entertain, educate, and elevate. The festival includes a Hollywood red-carpet gala and award presentations. General admission tickets are free, on a first-come, first-serve basis. Doors open at 6 pm, and the festival begins at 7 pm. It is recommended to arrive early to secure a ticket.

CUIFF received submissions this year from coast to coast and internationally, including from Australia, Canada, Germany, Greece, Indonesia, Iran, Italy, Turkey, and the United Kingdom.

One of the winning short films is a documentary that follows competitive swimmers from the southside of Chicago on their journey to the National Senior Games, where nothing – not age, race or history – will stand in their way. Team members will attend the festival, and CUIFF, in collaboration with its partners at the Don Moyer Boys & Girls Club, is planning programming with the team while they are in town.

Max Libman, the founder of CUIFF and a senior in high school at Academy High, is the fourth generation to call Champaign-Urbana home. Libman shared, “I am really excited to see the festival transition from startup to an established event. This milestone allows us to expand our impact and build upon the relationships we formed with our partners and sponsors to enhance the overall experience this year.”

Building upon last year’s festival, “We learned that the audience especially enjoyed hearing directly from the winning filmmaker at the festival, so we’re expanding opportunities to hear from the filmmakers and those involved with the films at the festival. Also, due to the success of the red carpet gala which provided a Hollywood type experience, we’re expanding this aspect of the festival to create even more memorable moments.”

Additional information about the festival is available on CUIFF’s website at www.cuiff.org.
