There’s a new spot for coffee on campus

There’s a new spot for coffee on the U of I campus called Kinship Coffeehouse inside Presby Hall. The brand new café offers drip coffee by Dancing Goats, chai, matcha, espresso, Americano, lattes, mocha, and white mocha. Soon, the campus café will also sell fresh baked goods by Central Illinois Bakehouse like blueberry lemon scones, chocolate croissant, muffins, and more.

Today, I ordered a small caramel latte ($4), and it was delicious. With a pretty design in the foam, my latte had a strong, smooth coffee flavor with a sweet finish.

The space has free wifi, tables, and brand new comfy couches for those who want to linger over a cuppa.

The coffee shop’s manager is Harry Alexander Krigel, who previously was general manager for Urbana’s BrewLab and BakeLab. He told me, “Our doors are open to everybody…there’s a drink for everyone. A drip brew coffee or one with an extra shot, caramel drizzle, this and that — whatever it is, it’s affordable. You shouldn’t have to drink crappy coffee. Mark [the owner] is making a space for all to gather and drink kick ass coffee. We’re there.”

The coffee shop will have expanded hours for finals week, but until then, coffee will be available five days a week from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekdays.
