There’s a Sweet Corn Circus happening in Uptown Normal this weekend

Did you know that Illinois State University has a whole circus troupe that’s been performing since 1929? Gamma Phi Circus is the oldest collegiate circus troupe in the U.S. Growing up in Normal, not far from ISU, I remember seeing them perform.

They are one of the groups that will be performing at the Sweet Corn Circus this weekend, an annual event in Uptown Normal. They will be doing full performances as well as juggling demonstrations. Will they juggle corn? I don’t know. Also performing is CirqueMania, and Iron Spirit Pro Wrestling, with music from Maestro Jones and the Front Street Collective and Kickin’ and Pickin’ One Man Band.

Obviously, there will be sweet corn, provided by Maddox Sweet Corn. I’ve purchased corn from their Bloomington farm stand before, and it’s delicious. There will be other concessions and vendors as well.

The event is free to attend, and will take place August 26th from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and August 27th from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. You can find the full schedule of events on the Uptown Normal website.
