To-go cocktails are here to stay, at least for a while longer

Looking back on a pretty horrific year, it’s important to celebrate small things that brought a little joy into the bleakness. One of those things is to-go cocktails. In fact, we deemed it the “best new restaurant concept” of 2020.

Now, it looks like you can continue to bring some of your favorites home after Governor Pritzker extended the provision that allows restaurants to sell cocktails and single servings of wine for carryout and delivery through January 3rd, 2024. It’s a win-win. It helps boost restaurant revenue, and we can enjoy tasty cocktails made by someone else in the comfort of our homes.

Our Food & Drink Editor Alyssa has done the difficult work of tasting many of them for you. Check out some of her recommendations here and here (but also keep in mind that menus and offerings are subject to change).

The provision will also allow Illinois restaurants and bars to give you a free drink if you are vaccinated. I will be anxiously awaiting for this to happen in C-U, vaccination card at the ready.
