There is no end to the goodness that Dolly Parton exudes, and the Imagination Library is one of the wonderful projects that she has a hand in. From United Way’s press release:

Inspired by her father’s inability to read or write, in 1995 Dolly Parton launched the Imagination Library to foster an early love of reading and learning in her hometown of Sevier Co., TN. Today, the program gives over 2.6 million free books every month to children around the world.

Now, kids five and under in Champaign County will be able to benefit from the program. United Way of Champaign County already does a lot of work to promote child wellness and kindergarten readiness, and now they will have this tool to get books to families with young children.

Families that register for the program will receive one free age-appropriate book a month for each child from birth to five years. They can expect the first book to arrive 8 to 12 weeks after registering, and the first title will be The Little Engine that Could.

If you would like to support United Way’s efforts, you can do so on their website.
