The annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Countywide Celebration is happening on January 24th, and organizers are asking for nominations for the three awards that they give out during the event. Do you know an individual (or organization) who would be deserving of one of these?

  • James R. Burgess, Jr./Susan Freiburg Humanitarian Award – An award honoring the humanitarian efforts of individuals who contribute to the basic human dignity of those in need.
  • Doris Hoskins Prestigious Community Service Award – An award honoring individuals who engage in improving the well-being of Champaign County.
  • Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Outstanding Achievement Award – An award honoring individuals or organizations that work for social justice in the spirit of Dr. King. The principles of justice that Dr. King espoused include promoting equal rights for all persons regardless of race, religion, economic status, or physical and mental ability.

There is a nomination form on the event website. It needs to be filled out by December 1st. You can read about last year’s recipients here.
