You can smash your pumpkins at Landscape Recycling Center next week

Hundreds of pumpkins are smashed in a pile on a large slab of concrete.

Don’t put your pumpkins in the trash after Halloween is over. Landscape Recycling Center has a much more sustainable and fun way to dispose of them.

On Saturday, November 4th, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., you can gather those babies up and take them to LRC, then emphatically and/or aggressively chuck them into their compost pile. It depends on how much inner rage you need to express in this safe and environmentally-friendly way. Yes, you could also just compost them at home (or let them rot and get devoured by squirrels), but this seems more exciting.

This event is free, and it will also be informative. You can learn about composting and organic recycling from the Champaign County Environmental Stewards while you’re there!
