Get your Culture here: Four things to do in March that are not related to the holidays

There are so many holidays during the month of March: the beginning of Ramadan, Holi, St. Patrick’s Day, Easter, basketball tournaments, and Spring Break (the last two are admittedly not holidays, but worth celebrating all the same). While there are plenty of holiday events to do in Champaign-Urbana, I thought it could be fun to focus on some things to do in-between all of the holidays (wait, am I at risk of seeming like I don’t like celebrating?). Either way, the days are getting longer, the weather has been beautiful, and spring is on the way. So let’s dive into four fun Culture things to do this March.

Create an intentional practice

Lisa Merrified is an astrologer, holistic health coach, herbalist, and a perpetual student and teacher of the mystic arts. She is working with Yellow and Co. as part of their wellness series to help participants connect and “cultivate ritual to find meaning.” Merrifield will assist participants through the steps to create simple but intentional practices by using astrology, mindfulness, and the lunar and seasonal cycles to help make a difference in their day-to-day experiences. These practices will help you connect with yourself, with others, with nature, and with the collective consciousness. Participants will take home practical and easy to implement ideas that will fit into their lifestyles and align with their goals.

Snuggle some baby goats

Babies and Brunch is truly one of my favorite things to do in C-U every spring. It changes a little bit each year, but always includes a visit with the Prairie Farms goats, getting to see new baby goats, and a breakfast of some kind. The shop is usually open too so you can take home some delicious and award-winning cheese made on the farm. A ticket will include 90 minutes of baby goat snuggles and photo ops, and a packed continental breakfast, orange juice, coffee, and hot chocolate. They may be getting new owners soon, but I hope this sweet tradition will continue.

Play some new games

CUDO Plays is all about “building the game you want to play.” They’ll be hosting their biggest event of the year with their annual open gaming event. Teams have worked all year to create new and creative games and they’ll be ready for playing at this event. Participants simply need to show up, pick a table, and learn a new game. The games will be available to play from noon to 5 p.m., there will be a raffle for prizes (board games and accessories) at 5 p.m., and at 6 p.m., awards will be given out to exceptional games in eight different categories.
