Do you have a picky family where everyone likes different toppings? Or are you looking for a quick lunch to please a crowd? Vinny’s Pizza by the Slice may be the spot for you. When I went, Vinny’s offered minimal wait time, a wide assortment of toppings, and tasty pizza, salads, and calzones. Additionally, multiple locations make it convenient whether you’re on campus (50 E. Green Street in Champaign) or prefer a spacious parking lot (1317 Savoy Plaza Lane in Savoy). The Savoy location does not have seating, but there were several chairs to wait for food, and also delivery options like GrubHub and Doordash.
Vinny’s slogan is: “Taking pizza customization to a whole new level” because the place offers 50+ toppings and endless creations. There were also pre-made pizza specialties I could have pick from on the menu. However, Vinny’s is not limited to pizzas, customers will also find salads, calzones, subs, and wraps. In my opinion, the daily specials and daily slice specials are the best way to go.
There were also happy hour specials and last-hour specials that might be worth checking out.
I tried a few slices of pizza with my sons. We got some specials as well as some of the regular pizza combinations. The first thing we all commented on was how large the slices were. They were described as one-eighth of their gigantic 20-inch pizzas, which was not an exaggeration!
Both my sons ordered the meat lovers pizza ($5.99). It was lathered in tomato sauce and topped with mozzarella cheese, pepperoni, sweet Italian sausage, bacon, and ground beef. It lived up to its name and was extremely filling.
I went on a Monday, so I also got both of the daily specials: veggie supreme ($3.99) and chicken bacon ranch ($3.99). The veggie supreme had tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese and was topped with green pepper, red peppers, olives, and mushrooms. I wanted something a little lighter, so this veggie slice was the perfect option.
The other Monday special, the chicken bacon ranch special slice ($3.99), had barbecue sauce as the base with mozzarella and cheddar cheeses and was topped with seasoned barbecue chicken, bacon, and ranch dressing. This was a big hit with my sons. We thought it was the tastiest pizza, packed with flavor.
The spinach feta slice ($5.99) was a nice alternative to a traditional tomato sauce pizza. The feta cheese, spinach, and tomatoes made it unique and delicious.
Lastly, we had to try the garlic knots ($4.49). They were chewy, doughy, and full of garlic flavor. If you’re a bread person, you will love these.
Value, variety, and good-tasting food are at the heart of Vinny’s by the Slice. To top it off, the workers were very friendly and will helped us make a decision.
Check it out if you’re looking for a quick and yummy bite!
