The sushi restaurant ISHI and Japanese bakery Kaori’s Oven will both re-open this week on Wednesday, August 16th. After a summer hiatus, the two businesses will team up for lunch service six days a week at their Champaign restaurant. One of the BEST unique dining experiences in C-U, ISHI’s popular omakase is on hold for now — same with table reservations; for the time being, the restaurant is walk-in only.

The new menu will include Japanese curry, kaisen don (sushi bowl), okonomiyaki, sandwiches, breads, cake, and desserts plus revolving specials.

Okonomiyaki, a savory pancake, was on the menu before at ISHI in 2021.

My favorite baked goods from Kaori’s Oven are her animal sweets (the chocolate turtle bread and honey cream cheese panda), and her fluffy cheesecake is legendary.
