Joy Harjo’s residency at U of I runs April 23-24

Joy Harjo, the 23rd United States Poet Laureate and member of the Muscogee [Creek] Nation, will be visiting April 23-24 as part of Humanities Research Institute‘s programming on campus at the University of Illinois. There are a few opportunities to see her speak, some of which require advanced registration. Check out HRI’s website for all the info you’ll need.

Harjo the first Native American to hold the position of Poet Laureate and only the second person to serve three terms in the role. Her nine books of poetry include Weaving Sundown in a Scarlett LightAn American Sunrise, Conflict Resolution for Holy Beings, How We Became Human: New and Selected Poems, and She Had Some Horses.

Last fall, the 24th Poet Laureate, Ada Limón, visited Spurlock Museum.
