Swim Ignorant Fire, led by Stephen Holliger, has just released a haunting yet heartwarming song and video called “Struggle Channel”, of their new album Glow. The inspiration for the video came from a deeply personal experience; after the passing of Stephen’s grandmother, a cardinal incessantly visited his living room window, a bird he has always associated with his grandparents. This became a poignant source of inspiration to explore the lengths a loved one would go to visit you from beyond. The video captures this sentiment, complemented by a musical collaboration between Stephen and pedal steel player Nate Hahn from Urbana.

The story doesn’t end there. In a serendipitous twist of fate, Stephen found out he was going to be a father shortly after his grandmother’s passing. Named Gloria but affectionately called “Glo,” his daughter has become the namesake of the album. This release will be commemorated with a limited edition of 25 lathe vinyl copies and long-sleeve shirts to celebrate it being Swim Ignorant Fire’s 25th release. The song and the album are not just an ode to loved ones but also a testament to the circle of life itself, beautifully capturing how endings can often be new beginnings. You can purchase limited edition, physical or digital copies on their label’s Bandcamp page. The video was directed and edited by Ryan Hart.
