This Friday is Fry Day

Originally celebrated every July 13th, National French Fry Day is now celebrated on the second Friday of July after people pleaded for Fry Day to always be a Friday. We can get free fries from chain restaurants in honor of the fry holiday, but what about the fries you can only get here in Champaign-Urbana? So many restaurants have fries on the menu, and surely, you have opinions about them.

What kind of fries do you prefer? Thick or thin? Waffle, wedge, or stick? Do sweet potato fries count? Chime in with all fry opinions, and argue in the comments on our socials about which C-U restaurants have the best fries.

In honor of Fry Day on Fri-Yay, let’s get hungry looking at some of the delicious fries around Champaign-Urbana.

The simple fries at Merry Ann’s Diner are great, especially after a late night out.

I love the seasoned fries from the food truck Garro’s Taste of the City. The red truck also serves a delicious fry entree called Midwest gyro fries. It’s a styrofoam box of fries topped with gyro meat, queso, chopped tomatoes, lettuce, cucumber, tzatziki sauce, and shredded cheddar.

Are we down with some waffle fries? The Watson’s truck sells my favorite waffle fries.

How about a horseshoe? This one from Smoky’s House BBQ has a ton of thick fries smothered with beer cheese over sliced brisket and Texas toast.

Since we’re talking saucy fries, I have to mention Wood N’ Hog’s fries. Every order of fries come dripping with the restaurant’s special barbecue sauce, and I love it.

Lastly, Black Dog in Champaign also has great fries, both regular and sweet potato versions. I like to eat fries here with the Georgia peach sauce and side of ranch.
