Prepare for Pi Day on March 14th

Have you made all the necessary preparations for Pi Day? Tomorrow is March 14th, and it is tradition on the date of 3/14 to consume pie, thanks to Larry Shaw. He first celebrated the day with pies in 1988, and since 2009, the holiday has been nationally recognized — and internationally celebrated since 2019. Those wanting to honor Pi Day need to start making pie-crusts now or plan where to go for the circular dessert tomorrow.

I want to celebrate with Po’ Boys’ double chocolate cream pie (pictured above). I’ve written about that pie a few times (here, here, and here) because it’s seriously amazing. It has an awesome creamy, chocolate filling, and that paired with Oreo-cookie crust makes it chocolate-overload and totally delicious.

For other yummy pies to partake for Pi Day 2024, here are some we’ve written about recently.

Pies by Inge pies are worth seeking out inside the Brown Bag Restaurant in Monticello. They all look good, but Jess is partial to the lime cream and the butterscotch meringue slices. Read more about the bakery’s pies here and here.

Mahomet’s Lucky Moon Pies & More literally put pie in the bakery’s name because they’re that good at making pies. If chicken pot pie is on the menu, it’s a must, but the sweet pies are outstanding as well. Read our reviews of Lucky Moon Pies here, here, here, and here.

I’m not sure if cheesecake counts as pie, but it starts as a definitely circle. Therefore, it’s π-related for sure.

I love the bourbon butter pecan cheesecake (pie) at Sooie Bros Bar B Que Joint in Champaign. Truly amazing, the silky smooth center is spiked with bourbon and garnished with crushed pecans and drippy caramel. Carl loves it, too. Find it on the dessert menu at the barbecue restaurant on Kirby Avenue.
